People can choose from an increasing number of communication devices and a sea of applications, data storage is available in a variety of ways, and data analytics is flourishing. The democratization of data, or increasing its availability to the general public, is rapidly expanding and transforming the data economy. It is widely known that data is a company’s most valuable asset, yet most companies are lagging behind in building their own data management and security capabilities. Data can be stolen, irretrievably lost or corrupted, and can deprive a company of its reputation or competitive advantage just as quickly as it can provide them when used properly. Securing company data is an important part of business success. ### Data protection keeps you awake at night Data protection is not only a concern for end users and companies themselves, which create complex policies and plans for this purpose and spend considerable sums on various technological solutions, but also for politically active authorities concerned with protecting their constituents, creating an additional obligation for companies to comply with new and demanding regulatory requirements such as GDPR, HIPAA, etc. Today’s hackers and the botnets they control also have the same, if not greater, computing power than most organizations, and the number of attack vectors multiplies with every device, application and data flow in the system. In light of these global circumstances, Acronis, as a global leader in data protection, has taken another step forward and, after consulting with our trusted customers, partners, industry experts and analysts, decided to help address these issues by opening its own platform to the public and making it available to third-party developers. ### Initiating the cyber protection sequence… We first launched [Acronis Cyber Platform](https://www.acronis.com/en-us/partners/cyber-platform/) in early-access mode. This means that we made six key APIs of our ecosystem available, which had previously been accessible only to internal developers and selected integration partners such as ConnectWise, Microsoft and Google, and into which years of development, experience with existing integrations and the company’s deliberate effort to develop new business opportunities for Acronis and its partners have gone. Over the next few months, our early-access partners will receive direct access to Acronis teams involved in development, product management, support, business development and marketing. Acronis plans to fully support qualified projects and their teams and help them launch and present their projects at the [Acronis Global Cyber Summit](https://acronis.events/summit2019/), held October 13–16 in Miami, where Acronis Cyber Platform will be launched in its full version, including the publication of API documentation and sample code, developer certification and open partner registration. Independent developers, ISVs and OEM vendors, service providers and everyone else will then be able to build specific solutions for their own customers and users on the platform. ### …And its subsequent use The Internet of Things is already continuously creating a mountain of new data, and according to projections of current trends, there will be thirty-one billion “things” in the world by [2021](https://www.acronis.com/en-us/blog/posts/ai-cloud-iot-edge-5g-generating-mountains-data-thoughts-idcdirections). Using traditional data protection tools and technologies to secure each of them will be impractical at the very least. The SDK included in Acronis Cyber Platform, on the other hand, will allow ISVs and OEM vendors to embed cyber protection in their IoT devices and systems and thus provide customers and partners with services offering additional value. From the specific to the general: Acronis Cyber Platform allows software developers to add cyber protection and data backup features to data sources that are not under the company’s control, to SaaS solutions offered to customers, such as accounting or inventory systems, which normally do not have backup functions, and subsequently ensure that customer data is stored in storage that meets any financial or regulatory requirements—in a public or private cloud or on a local device. Acronis Cyber Platform also makes powerful data analytics and processing capabilities available. It can add advanced search to data created by applications without a search function, and add encryption according to preferences and requirements to data subject to specific regulations. There are almost endless possibilities for using Acronis Cyber Platform, and each additional integration will add more of them, as well as more of the value we can create together while protecting our customers’ data.
