According to the latest information, the attack affected 200,000 Windows computers in more than 150 countries worldwide and may recur again soon. According to Acronis experts, files encrypted by WannaCry ransomware cannot be decrypted, and even paying the requested ransom does not guarantee that vital files will become accessible again. The new type of ransomware also spreads rapidly through unprotected corporate networks and infects all other devices on the networks. To protect against further attacks, Acronis therefore recommends: - Ensuring that the operating system and applications are regularly updated - Having up-to-date antivirus and anti-malware systems - Backing up data regularly outside the computer or local network, ideally to the cloud - Using a backup solution with active ransomware protection The **Acronis True Image 2017 New Generation** product, for example, includes Acronis Active Protection functionality, which proactively protects user files and their backups by identifying and blocking ransomware in real time.
