In the area of corporate IT, more companies have encountered operational outages due to data loss, and IT administrators are therefore increasing backup frequency. The Acronis survey is the fifth in a series that the company has conducted regularly since 2016 on the occasion of World Backup Day. This year, the company expanded it to include IT administrators responsible for corporate IT infrastructure. Some 3,000 respondents from around the world were surveyed, including both ordinary users and corporate IT professionals. Unsurprisingly, the results compiled from the survey show that the two groups differ significantly both in their responsibility toward data protection and in how they secure it. The most interesting findings from this year's survey: - **68% of ordinary users** have already experienced data or device loss, whether their own or that of family members, which is 3 percentage points more than in last year's survey. - **42% of companies** have experienced operational outages due to the loss of business data, which is 12 percentage points more than last year. - Although the majority (51%) of **ordinary users** still back up locally, 31% already back up to the cloud and 17% use a combination, which is 5 and 7 percentage points more, respectively, than last year. - Among **IT administrators**, 25% back up locally, 35% to the cloud, 20% use a combination, and the remaining 20% replicate data to other data centers. - Concerns among **ordinary users** about ransomware attacks (up 29%), cryptojacking (up 31%), and social engineering (up 34 percentage points) have increased significantly. - At the corporate level, backup frequency is increasing: there has been a significant increase in **IT administrators** who back up at least once a day (now 27%) or several times a day (now 15%), while the number of those who back up only once or twice a month is rapidly declining (now 20%). “Awareness of cyber threats among ordinary users is growing rapidly, as a result of personal experience with data loss as well as the increasing number of reports about cyberattacks,” said **Zdeněk Bínek, responsible for sales of Acronis solutions in the Czech Republic and Slovakia**. “However, the survey shows that there is still a major difference in approach between ordinary users and IT professionals.
