Nearly half of the survey respondents stated that, in the event of system outages, they cannot afford to have **their latest backup be older than 4 hours or systems unavailable for longer than 1 day**. However, most organizations still have separate data protection and cybersecurity systems, which makes meeting such requirements somewhat more difficult. Given the growing volume and importance of corporate data, more and more organizations are adding additional security elements to basic backup, such as backup immutability features or disaster recovery. The 3-2-1 golden backup rule is gradually becoming the standard, and few organizations can afford not to have at least one copy of their data outside the physical location—whether in the cloud or in offline storage. The survey's most interesting findings: - For backing up critical data, 44% of companies use a 3-2-1 strategy with data immutability, 23% use a 3-2-1 strategy without this feature, 15% have one copy in the cloud, and 18% back up without a formal strategy. - Integrated backup and security platforms are used by 24% of companies, a combination of non-integrated tools from different vendors by 61%, backup with antimalware by 7%, and backup only by 8%. - 17% of respondents require disaster recovery (DR) systems to guarantee a backup no older than 1 hour (RPO) and recovery from an operational outage within 4 hours (RTO). Another 31% require an RPO of up to 4 hours and an RTO of up to 1 day, 37% an RPO of up to 1 day and an RTO of up to 3 days, while 15% of respondents do not define their requirements in any way. “Data is now the most valuable asset for every company, and the time a business can survive without critical data while still facing acceptable consequences is practically approaching zero,” said **Štěpán Bínek, Cloud Solutions Sales Manager for Acronis at ZEBRA SYSTEMS**. “That is why more and more organizations are increasing their requirements for backup and recovery solutions in order to minimize data loss and restore operations as quickly as possible in the event of an outage.
