This year’s report highlights organizations’ increased efforts to strengthen their data protection in the post-pandemic period, but also the high inefficiency of investments made to achieve this goal. In 2020, many companies purchased new systems in an effort to secure remote workers, but it appears that these investments have failed to deliver the intended results. Today, 80% of organizations simultaneously operate at least 10 security solutions focused on data protection and cybersecurity, while more than half of them suffered operational outages last year as a result of data loss. Acronis findings, based on responses from more than 4,400 IT users and administrators in 22 countries around the world, dispel the misconception that simply adding more solutions can address all cybersecurity and protection challenges. On the contrary, in many cases, the existence of multiple standalone solutions from a wide range of vendors results in more complicated management and a poorer overview of the security situation, paradoxically increasing risks. “This year’s Cyber Protection Week study clearly illustrates the fact that more solutions do not necessarily mean a higher level of protection, because using individual tools to address individual threats is complicated, inefficient, and costly,” said**Sergei Beloussov, founder and CEO of Acronis**. “These findings confirm our belief that the answer is comprehensive cyber protection integrating data protection, cybersecurity, and endpoint protection capabilities into a single solution.” The most interesting survey data includes: - 83% of regular users spent more time using their IT devices last year than in the previous year, yet only half took any steps to improve their protection. - 10% of users and 3% of IT administrators do not back up at all. - If their data were modified without their knowledge, 68% of users and 20% of IT administrators would not find out at all because their solutions cannot detect it. - 43% of users do not know whether their anti-malware solutions can stop zero-day attacks because their solutions do not provide such information. - 10% of IT administrators do not know whether their organization is required to protect the privacy of managed data, which may lead to the implementation of an incorrect security strategy and a significant risk of fines. Any IT administrator who has to use many solutions as part of their work eventually loses sight of the organization’s overall security level. Not only must they remember which solution secures which part of the IT infrastructure, but they must also constantly switch between control panels, leading to unclear and inefficient management.
