In other words, the attacked victim’s data can be held hostage. This has created an entirely new category of cybercrime. The latest [article on Tech Crunch](http://tcrn.ch/1VsRYOs) publishes findings from the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation, the FBI, which received more than 2,500 complaints about ransomware attacks that caused losses of $24 million. Incidents are multiplying, they are being written about more and more frequently, and victims include both individuals and organizations. The good news is that tools and methodologies are emerging that make it possible to defend against these insidious forms of malware. And there is prevention that can be implemented immediately.
