By far the highest number of vulnerabilities last year was identified in the Google Android system, while Google, Microsoft and Adobe ranked among the vendors with the highest number of vulnerabilities. While a total of 20,171 vulnerabilities emerged in 2021, surpassing the threshold of 20,000 identified vulnerabilities for the first time, there was a further increase last year. In addition, their severity is also growing, with the number of so-called critical vulnerabilities rising in 2022 as well. These included, for example, Log4J, identified as early as December 2021, although organizations continued to deal with its consequences well into 2022. Other well-known attacks last year included a zero-day attack on Google Chrome, a serious vulnerability in Microsoft Exchange, and a critical vulnerability in Adobe Commerce. Google became the software vendor with the highest number of vulnerabilities, with its Android system and Chrome browser taking the first two places, while Apple iOS closed out the top twenty. Among operating systems, the highest number of vulnerabilities was identified in Linux Kernel, Windows 10, Windows Server 2008 and MacOS.
