# Anti-virus

Antivirus is a type of computer program designed to detect and remove computer viruses that infect computer devices. It can also prevent the system from becoming infected with new viruses.

**Antivirus and anti-malware protection in Acronis Cyber Protect**

The [Antivirus and anti-malware protection](https://www.acronis.cz/web-help/Acronis_Cyber_Protect_15/index.html#52382.html) module helps protect Windows and macOS computers against the latest malware. Please note that the Active Protection feature, which is part of anti-malware protection, is not supported on macOS computers.

The Acronis Cyber Protect service is supported and registered in the Windows Security Center.

If your computer is already protected by a third-party antivirus solution when you use the Antivirus and anti-malware protection module, the system generates an alert and stops on-access protection to avoid potential compatibility and performance issues. To enable all antivirus and anti-malware protection features of Acronis Cyber Protect, you will need to either disable or uninstall the third-party antivirus program.
