# Snap Restore

Acronis Snap Restore is a feature included in Acronis True Image programs. Using this feature, you can boot the OS on a damaged computer before the system is fully restored from a disk image and start working seconds after recovery begins. Recovery will continue in the background.

**Limitations when using Acronis Snap Restore**

1\. Acronis Snap Restore can currently work only with images located in the Acronis Secure Zone.\
2\. Acronis Snap Restore technology cannot naturally be used if the disk image does not contain an operating system (in the case of a logical disk or partition image) or when restoring file backups.

**How Acronis Snap Restore works**

Once the recovery process has started, Acronis True Image Home:\
**1.** Finds the sectors in the disk image that contain system files and restores them first. This restores the operating system and makes it possible to start it very soon. After the OS starts, the user sees the folder and file tree structure, although the file contents have not yet been restored. Nevertheless, the user can begin working.\
**2.** Writes its own drivers to the hard disk, capable of providing access to files. As soon as the user opens files or launches applications, the drivers receive system requests and restore the sectors needed for the current operations.\
**3.** Acronis True Image Home meanwhile continues with a complete sector-by-sector recovery in the background. However, sectors requested by the system have the highest priority. The disk image will eventually be fully restored even if the user takes no action. However, if you want to work immediately after a system failure, you will gain at least several minutes, because restoring a 10–20 GB disk image (the most common disk image size) takes approximately 10 minutes. The larger the disk image, the more time you save.
