# System recovery from backup

If no backup exists, there is nothing to restore from. In such a case, you can try to recover lost files yourself using software such as Acronis Revive, Recuva, or Get Data Back. It is important not to overwrite the area of the disk where the deleted data is located. If you do not feel confident doing this, entrust data recovery to professional service providers. The cost of recovery (and it is not always possible to recover everything) ranges from thousands to tens of thousands of Czech crowns, depending on the type of problem (recovering data from physically damaged disks is the most expensive).

The safest method of protecting data and the system is backup. For backing up data, systems, disks, and disk partitions, we recommend [Acronis True Image](https://www.acronis.cz/produkt/true-image/) software (for home backup) and [Acronis Backup](https://www.acronis.cz/produkt/acronis-backup/) software (for backup in an organization).

It is a good idea to ensure that the operating system and working data are stored separately. This ensures that if the system crashes and needs to be erased, you will not lose your data at the same time. If the computer has two hard disks, it is advisable to use one as the system disk and the other to store working data. If the computer has only one disk, it is advisable to divide it into a system partition and a data partition. Acronis Disk Director software will help you partition the disk.

**System recovery using True Image software**

**1) System recovery** – the system works, but I need to restore the original state\
If the system works and Acronis True Image is installed on the computer:\
– Start True Image\
– Select the option to recover a disk / recover a disk partition\
– Select the relevant disk backup\
– Select the disk to be recovered\
– Start recovery

**2) System recovery** – the system does not start\
If the system is damaged to the extent that it does not start:\
– Start the computer – boot from [Acronis rescue boot media](https://www.acronis.cz/kb/boot-medium/)\
– Select the option to recover a disk / recover a disk partition\
– Select the relevant disk backup\
– Select the disk to be recovered\
– Start recovery

**3) System recovery** – the disk is physically destroyed\
If the hard disk is physically destroyed:\
– Replace the hard disk with a new one\
– Start the computer – boot from [Acronis rescue boot media](https://www.acronis.cz/kb/boot-medium/)\
– Select the option to recover a disk / recover a disk partition\
– Select the relevant disk backup\
– Select the disk to be recovered\
– Start recovery
