Outages of ERP systems, unique applications and email are the most risky
PRAGUE, February 12, 2025 – GFI Software, a provider of security solutions for enterprise networks, stated that according to its survey conducted among Czech and Slovak partners, only a quarter of companies are aware of which systems are critical and have them secured. Most respondents indicated that these are primarily financial/ERP systems and unique applications, without whose operation the greatest damage would occur.
Paradoxically, an organization’s main security problem may not be weak protection of its IT infrastructure, but rather strong security for the wrong systems. Companies often spend substantial resources protecting applications that are not critical to business operations, while forgetting those whose outage, for example as a result of a cyberattack, would bring the entire business to a halt and could threaten its very existence. This is simply because they failed to correctly identify their critical applications and analyze the consequences of their potential outage.
Key survey findings:
- The greatest damage would be caused by outages of financial/ERP systems (73% of respondents), unique specific applications (50%), email (45%) and CRM systems (43%).
- Only 24% of companies and organizations know which of their systems are critical and have them secured at the same time. 15% know their critical systems but do not have them secured, 21% do not know their critical systems, and 40% leave the care of their systems to their IT provider.
- Securing important IT infrastructure is most complicated by the expectation of high security costs (71% of respondents), overly complicated configurations and processes (42%), and information and alert overload (36%).
“As digitalization progresses, the number of applications in individual companies continues to grow, making it increasingly difficult to maintain an overview of the expanding infrastructure,” said Michael Nebeský, GFI Software solutions sales manager at ZEBRA SYSTEMS. “In this respect, GFI Software offers products that make it possible to identify important systems and protect them against operational issues or potential attacks. For example, GFI ClearView provides comprehensive network monitoring, optimization of business application performance and real-time analysis. GFI LanGuard scans the network, inventories the devices and software in use, and installs missing patches.”
