Only one fifth of companies are largely prepared for GDPR requirements
PRAGUE, 13 March 2018 – GFI Software, a provider of business network security solutions, stated that according to a survey conducted this February among Czech and Slovak resellers of GFI and Kerio solutions, one of the biggest IT security risks for SMBs is unprotected business networks. More than half of resellers report demand for firewall solutions, making them currently the second most sought-after solution after email protection.
Key findings of the GFI & Kerio survey:
- 56% of SMBs are threatened by unprotected business networks, 41% by non-updated software, 26% by infected websites, and 21% by the use of unauthorized portable media (mainly USB);
- 53% of GFI and Kerio solution resellers currently report demand for firewall solutions;
- Together with access management, data encryption and email security, firewalls are among the most commonly used tools for meeting GDPR requirements.
- According to resellers, only 19% of companies are largely prepared for GDPR requirements, 65% are rather not prepared, and 16% have not addressed them at all yet. No one is 100% prepared for GDPR;
“According to our survey, insufficient protection of business networks is among the biggest challenges for small and medium-sized companies,” said Zdeněk Bínek, responsible for sales of GFI Software solutions in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. “Underestimating it is a source of significant security risks for business data and the operation of the entire company, and from May onwards, it also poses the threat of non-compliance with GDPR regulations. Ensuring the integrity of a business network through the use of a firewall significantly strengthens network integrity and is also one of the tools that helps ensure regulatory compliance.”
In the area of business network protection, GFI Software offers the Kerio Control solution, which combines the features of a network firewall and router, attack detection and prevention (IPS), antivirus protection, VPN, and web content and application filtering. In the Czech Republic, its most significant deployments include, for example, McDonald’s branches and the non-profit organization Centrum Paraple.
