Acronis announced the addition of backup functionality for the Microsoft Office 365 platform to Acronis Backup 12, the world's fastest and most comprehensive enterprise backup solution. Acronis Backup 12 enables businesses to protect all their data, both locally and in the cloud, using a single solution, configuration and interface.
In 2016, the current version of Acronis Backup 12 received an excellent reception from enterprise customers, recording a 40% increase in sales. In line with Acronis' cloud strategy, Acronis Backup 12 adds new functionality for backing up data in Microsoft Office 365, which has been available as part of Acronis Backup Cloud since July 2016 and has seen considerable success among cloud service provider customers.
Backup services for Microsoft Office 365 provide maximum flexibility and scalability. “Businesses are interested in three important factors: data control, security and cost. Aligning all these requirements is becoming increasingly complicated as companies and the volume of their data grow and data protection becomes more complex. Acronis sees control over one's own data as a key feature, and businesses also appreciate the ability to manage different types of data,” said Ray Boggs, IDC Vice President for research in the SMB segment.
According to the latest findings from Enterprise Strategy Group, three quarters of the companies surveyed intend to protect their data in the public cloud in a location other than their production cloud environment. They realize that disruption of cloud service delivery or other issues can result in the loss of not only production data but also its backups. Forty-four percent of respondents stated that they would move their data to another cloud for faster and more reliable access, while 29% prefer to place a copy of their cloud data in local storage.
Microsoft Office 365 backup
The new Microsoft Office 365 protection functionality offers:
- Automatic backup of emails, including contacts, calendar, tasks and attachments;
- The ability to store backed-up data locally or in the cloud and access it for archiving purposes;
- Browsing and searching backed-up content;
- The ability to restore individual and shared mailboxes to the original or an alternative location;
- The ability to restore individual items without having to restore the entire backup;
- Acronis Active Protection against ransomware, protecting user devices and data by blocking attacks and instantly restoring affected data (to be available in the next update).
Support for VMware vSphere 6.5 and other innovations
This update also introduces support for VMware vSphere 6.5 – agent-based and agentless backup of VMs and ESXi, WMware CBT support, Acronis Instant Recovery, Acronis vmFlashBack, replication with WAN optimization, and other technical and operational innovations.
Complete protection of all data
Acronis Backup 12 offers protection for more than just Microsoft Office 365 or VMware vSphere 6.5 data; it is the only solution that protects all data, in all locations and in any environment. It enables businesses to retain control over their data even after moving to the cloud or when managing a hybrid cloud infrastructure.
- All virtual environments: best-in-class backup and recovery of virtual machines and hosted infrastructure;
- All clouds: easy backup and recovery of Microsoft Azure VMs, Amazon EC locations and Microsoft Office 365 mailboxes;
- All physical devices: Microsoft Windows, Linux, Mac servers and workstations, plus iPhone, iPad and Android devices;
- All applications: Microsoft Exchange, SQL Server, SharePoint, Active Directory and many more.
“Today, businesses are increasingly relying on Microsoft's cloud services. But cloud data also needs protection and must be continuously available for business continuity purposes. Email backup within Microsoft Office 365 extends the functionality of Acronis Backup 12 and provides comprehensive protection of the enterprise's complete digital footprint,” said Serguei Beloussov, founder and CEO of Acronis.
“We welcome the attention Acronis pays to Microsoft technologies,” said Rob Howard, Director of the Microsoft Office 365 Ecosystem. “By extending the benefits of Acronis Backup to Microsoft Office 365 data, Acronis helps provide our mutual customers with a robust and user-friendly backup environment.”
