Acronis provides comprehensive data and application protection in Microsoft environments

New extensions within the Acronis Backup Cloud solution enable Microsoft cloud service providers to immediately deliver hybrid cloud backup services to end users

Prague, July 11, 2016 – Acronis, a global leader in hybrid cloud data protection solutions, announced Acronis Backup Cloud Extension for Microsoft Azure and Azure Stack. The offering will enable Microsoft cloud service providers (CSPs) to easily deliver and manage a flexible range of backup services across physical and virtual environments, supporting a wide variety of workloads. By connecting Acronis Backup Cloud to Azure or Azure Stack environments, CSPs gain the ability to offer added value to their current services in the form of comprehensive backup and data protection services.

Today, SMBs face new challenges in data protection, including massive growth in data volumes, complex IT environments, digitized business processes, and mobile workers, not to mention growing cyber threats. In addition, SMBs struggle with data protection across a variety of virtual, physical, and mobile environments—48% of SMBs use both virtual and physical systems, while nearly 60% of companies use mobile devices for work.

With the new Acronis Backup Extension for Azure, Microsoft cloud service providers can deliver unique Acronis hybrid cloud backup services that provide comprehensive protection in Microsoft environments, including cloud and on-premises data centers, physical and virtual machines, and mobile devices—all within their existing Azure investments. Acronis protects data across a broad Microsoft ecosystem, including Microsoft Exchange, Office 365, SQL Server, SharePoint, Active Directory, workstations, Hyper-V devices, and mobile platforms.

In addition to backing up physical or local virtual devices and migrating them to Azure virtual machines, Acronis also enables providers to back up and protect Azure virtual machines (on Linux or Windows).

Additional benefits of Acronis Backup Cloud Extension for Azure include:

  • Unified data protection management – enables CSPs to more easily scale services with Acronis solutions across multiple customers and different service levels.
    • o Management of backup and data protection for all Acronis Backup Cloud customers from a single management console
  • Flexible storage options – uses a simple subscription model to protect any server or mobile device using Azure as the target storage
    • o Acronis Storage Gateway for Microsoft Azure enables backups directly to Azure storage, creating a true hybrid backup solution
  • Unmatched migration capabilities – offers a comprehensive set of migration features for data recovery in complex environments.
    • o Migration of an on-premises server running Windows or Linux to an Azure environment
    • o Migration of systems from other public clouds, such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), to Azure virtual machines

Microsoft Azure is an ever-expanding set of integrated cloud services, including analytics, computing, database, mobile, networking, and web services for faster and more efficient business operations. Acronis provides comprehensive hybrid cloud data protection solutions, including backup, cloud storage, disaster recovery, and file sharing for SMBs, delivered by service providers and cloud resellers worldwide. The result of integrating Acronis and Microsoft services is a combination of easy access to additional revenue from delivering data protection services and the speed of the Azure platform.

“When it comes to modernizing enterprise infrastructure with the help of cloud solutions, no one is better positioned than Microsoft,” said John Zanni, Senior Vice President of Partner and Cloud Strategy at Acronis. “Our integration with Microsoft Azure and Microsoft Azure Stack enables Microsoft cloud solution providers to carry out this modernization in minutes, while also offering a broader choice of storage than any other vendor.”

“With Microsoft Azure, we strive to provide customers with the fastest cloud platform available,” said Venkat Gattamneni, Director of the Azure Platform at Microsoft. “We are excited about the capabilities Acronis brings to the Azure environment by offering migration and data protection solutions for our joint hybrid cloud customers.”

Acronis Backup Cloud is a hybrid cloud backup solution service that makes it easier for SMBs to manage the protection of their data regardless of its location—whether on premises, in the cloud, or in both locations. The latest version of Acronis Backup Cloud is built on a cloud-native architecture and ready for any service provider, technology environment, and business model.
