According to an Acronis survey, 31% of companies are battling daily attacks as a result of remote work

Acronis today announced the release of a new version of Acronis Cyber Protect 15, an enterprise solution integrating backup, disaster recovery, next-generation anti-malware protection, cyber protection and endpoint management tools – all in one comprehensive solution. Such an integrated solution eliminates the complex management of separate security products while improving data protection and availability to achieve the highest possible productivity.

The new solution comes at a time when businesses are struggling to protect their data and infrastructure due to extensive remote work. The latest Acronis Cyber Readiness Report study, which surveyed 3,400 organizations and remote workers worldwide in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic, revealed that 92% of businesses had to deploy new technologies to secure home users. These included collaboration, privacy protection and endpoint cyber protection tools.

The key challenge for these organizations is the fact that they use several different solutions across their corporate networks, which are costly, time-consuming to manage and operationally complex. Their insufficient integration also creates gaps in defenses against cyber attackers. The study also found that hackers most often target remote workers using phishing, DDoS attacks and attacks on videoconferencing applications.

  • 39% of surveyed companies experienced an attack on their videoconferencing system during the past three months as their employees rely on applications such as Zoom, Cisco Webex and Microsoft Teams. Cisco recently reported a vulnerability in its application that allows attackers to open, read and steal potentially valuable or risky content.
  • Ransomware malware attacks have also increased, with 31% of companies reporting daily attacks and half (50%) experiencing such an attack at least once a week. In July, for example, a leading provider of GPS technologies paid $10 million in connection with a WastedLocker ransomware attack. Acronis Cyber Protection Operations Centers found that 35% of customer endpoints were exposed to malware attacks that continued until Acronis Cyber Protect was deployed.
  • Phishing attacks are at historic highs, which is not surprising when only 2% of companies consider URL filtering as part of their cyber strategy. This makes home users particularly more vulnerable – Acronis found that approximately 10% of users during May, June and July clicked on infected websites.

These findings, together with other surveys, illustrate why organizations need a cyber protection solution that reduces complex management and improves security, especially in environments with remote workers. Such solutions must be cost-effective and also cover employees in home offices.

“The world of cyber threats has changed dramatically in recent years, and especially in the last six months. Traditional standalone antivirus and standalone backup are no longer able to protect against modern threats,” said Sergej Beloussov, founder and CEO of Acronis. “Organizations that modernize their ecosystems with integrated security tools gain not only a higher level of security, but also lower costs and greater productivity. Automation and simple management in Acronis Cyber Protect 15 mean that every company can now minimize risks and downtime while increasing the efficiency of its IT team.”

With Acronis Cyber Protect 15 and its unique combination of data protection and cybersecurity (including AI-based behavioral detection capable of stopping even zero-day attacks, URL filtering, vulnerability assessment, videoconferencing protection and automated patch management), organizations have modern protection against cyber threats while being assured that they can recover their data faster than with any other solution.

  • 10% of users clicked on suspicious links that could have led to phishing attacks, but Acronis Cyber Protect blocked all of these websites, protecting users, their devices and corporate data.
  • Videoconferencing protection safeguards against the misuse of applications such as Zoom, Webex and Microsoft Teams. Acronis Cyber Protect even protected the Webex system before Cisco released a patch.
  • According to independent testing by AV-Test and Virus Bulletin, Acronis Cyber Protect detected 100% of malware attacks with zero false positives. If the aforementioned GPS supplier had had an Acronis solution, it would never have lost $10 million.

Based on the current level of cyber attacks, Acronis Cyber Protect is capable of preventing $150 million worth of attacks annually in direct losses.
