Acronis has announced the release of its key Acronis Cyber Platform enabling broad third-party access. The aim of the release is to give developers the ability to expand functionality and application integrations, thereby increasing value and opportunities within the extensive Acronis ecosystem.
Acronis Cyber Platform, which underpins Acronis's existing services, includes a range of APIs supported by a software development kit (SDK) and programming code. Today, Acronis is adding new APIs providing access previously available only to Acronis developers and selected integration partners such as ConnectWise, Microsoft and Google.
With access to the platform, developers can create new data sources, new data locations, new data management functionality, and integrate their applications with Acronis cyber protection solutions. In addition, software vendors, service providers, resellers and customers can integrate Acronis solutions into their applications, systems or marketplaces, generate new revenue streams and address a greater number of use cases. Acronis currently has more than 50,000 registered resellers, 500,000 business customers and 5 million end users.
The rise of cyber protection
With the introduction of Acronis Cyber Platform, Acronis is fulfilling its vision that modern cyber protection should include data protection, cybersecurity and privacy assurance. Today's data needs are shifting from managing data volumes to efficiently leveraging data from diverse data sources and across many data locations. The only way to fully manage and protect this data is to ensure all five vectors of cyber protection – safety, accessibility, privacy, authenticity and security (SAPAS).
Existing Acronis services for backup, synchronization and sharing, authenticity assurance and disaster recovery are already designed to meet the SAPAS concept and are built on Acronis Cyber Infrastructure, Acronis Cloud and the APIs of Acronis Cyber Platform.

Access to the platform opens up major possibilities for third-party developers, enabling them to address every vector of the SAPAS concept simultaneously – just as Acronis Total Protect does. This revolutionary product, which will be officially launched at the Acronis Global Cyber Summit, provides a new level of cyber protection by combining backup, cybersecurity and system management functionality in a single solution.
Commitment to the cyber future
Today’s announcement also includes information about changes to Acronis product branding, which will better reflect the growing role of cyber protection in the company’s activities and its partner ecosystem:
- Acronis Cyber Cloud (formerly Acronis Data Cloud) is a platform enabling service providers to deliver cyber protection efficiently and securely. The upcoming Acronis Cyber Cloud 7.9 update will be available to all Acronis customers and partners by the end of April and will include, among other things, support for G Suite backup and protection against cryptominers.
- Acronis Cyber Infrastructure (formerly Acronis Software Defined Infrastructure) is a scalable software-defined infrastructure solution that uses standard hardware and combines all types of storage.
According to Phil Goodwin, research director at IDC, “it is estimated that as many applications will be deployed in the next five years as were deployed in the past 40 years, creating demand not only for better data management but also for a better concept of data protection. Acronis is transforming its strategy and rapidly expanding its partner base, and now, with the release of Acronis Cyber Platform, it offers them an opportunity for further growth, reduces churn and provides more options through solutions built on APIs and the Acronis marketplace. Acronis is targeting the cyber protection segment, and the newly released Acronis Cyber Platform should accelerate the entire ecosystem.”
Availability of Acronis Cyber Platform
Acronis Cyber Platform is currently available only in a limited mode, during which developer support is guaranteed. Full availability, training and certification for Acronis Cyber Platform will be available at the Acronis Global Cyber Summit 2019 in October in Miami. This key partner and customer conference will welcome leading global representatives of the cyber protection segment and speakers such as Robert Herjavec and Eric O’Neill. Similar regional events will take place in September in Singapore and in December in Abu Dhabi.
