The growing number of ransomware attacks is increasing interest in cloud backup

Acronis published a local survey on the occasion of World Backup Day (World Backup Day), conducted in January among its partners in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. According to the survey, Czech and Slovak businesses value their financial and operational (production) data most highly; however, more than half of them still need a full day to restore operations in the event of critical data loss, which can cause significant business losses.

The survey identified the following findings:

  • For 50% of businesses, financial data is the priority when backing up, followed by operational or production data for 46%, email for 42%, and CRM contacts for 25%. 50% of businesses make no distinction and back up everything.
  • Two-thirds of companies back up entire disks or whole virtual machines, while the rest back up selected files and directories.
  • In the event of critical data loss, 8% of businesses can restore operations within seconds, 17% within one hour, 21% within 4 hours, and 54% within one day.
  • 84% of partners have already encountered ransomware among their customers;
  • 67% of partners report potential customer interest in cloud backup.

“World Backup Day is always a good reminder that businesses are becoming increasingly dependent on data every year and that outages have increasingly serious consequences,” said Zdeněk Bínek, responsible for sales of Acronis solutions in the Czech and Slovak markets. “On the one hand, if we realize that trends such as Industry 4.0 and IoT increase the vulnerability of manufacturing companies in particular, and on the other hand, we are witnessing a growing number of ransomware attacks, the most important task is to keep data in a secure location. Not only on storage physically located within the company, but also in the cloud.”

World Backup Day is a day when individuals and businesses should recognize the growing role of data in life and work. This independent initiative aims to raise awareness of data backup and recovery, inform about the consequences of data loss, and offer guidance on how to protect data safely not only on computers, but also on a wide range of mobile devices today.
