Human error is one of the main causes of corporate data loss in 84% of cases

PRAGUE, April 24, 2023 – Acronis, a global leader in cyber protection solutions, presented the results of a survey among its Czech IT partners, according to which 75% of them now test data recovery from their customers' backups at least once per quarter, which is more than last year. The survey was conducted in April 2023 among IT resellers of ZEBRA SYSTEMS, the exclusive distributor of Acronis solutions in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Southeastern Europe.

The survey also revealed that the most common causes of corporate data loss are human error, technical failure and cyberattacks. Overall, the survey results indicate the growing responsibility of IT providers and increased attention to cyber risks. In addition to more frequent testing of data recovery and improving protection against cyberattacks, many also stated that they are able to restore customers' systems more quickly after a total disaster.

The most interesting survey findings include:

  • 84% of resellers stated that human error is one of the main causes of customer data loss, 35% cited system failure and 30% cited a cyberattack.
  • 81% of respondents back up their customers' data every day, 2% every hour and 9% continuously. Only 7% back up once a week, and no one does so irregularly, which is a slight improvement compared to last year, when 5% of respondents still backed up irregularly.
  • 12% of IT providers test recovery from backup once a week, 25% once a month and 38% every quarter. Overall, this means that 75% of respondents test at least quarterly, representing a significant increase from 53% last year.
  • 19% of resellers can restore systems after a total disaster within 4 hours (only 10% last year), 26% within 24 hours and 55% within one week at the latest. Compared to last year, all of them now guarantee operational recovery within one week at the latest.

“Although nearly two-thirds of our IT resellers report a higher frequency of cyberattacks, the findings from our survey are mildly optimistic,” said Aleš Hok, Sales Director of ZEBRA SYSTEMS. “Compared to last year's survey, they report fewer cases of data loss as a result of cyberattacks, which indicates higher-quality cyber protection tools. Most importantly, however, we are pleased by the greater frequency of data recovery testing, because such regular exercises generally lead to fewer cases of critical data loss and faster disaster recovery, while Acronis solutions today make it possible to restore operations in as little as 1 hour.”
