Acronis has announced a new update to its award-winning personal backup solution – Acronis True Image 2019. This update protects users' computers from malicious software that can involve their computers in illegal cryptocurrency mining and cause a significant reduction in their performance.

According to this year's estimates, the number of such attacks increased by 629% compared to last year, with more than 3 million detected in the first half of 2018. Although this activity is not directly dangerous in terms of potential data loss, it can consume a significant amount of computing resources needed to solve complex problems when mining cryptocurrencies such as Monero or Bitcoin. The threat of data loss is indirect: while the malware itself "only" slows down the computer, it also often exposes it to possible ransomware infections during open access to the system.

The Acronis Active Protection functionality can now automatically detect and stop cryptocurrency mining processes in real time. The latest addition to Acronis's cyber protection arsenal provides assurance that the computer and network are used exclusively by the legitimate user.

How the enhanced functionality works:
• Stops illegal “miners” – prevents access by cryptomining malware, which is often accompanied by a ransomware attack or other threats;
• Alerts about threats – immediately notifies users when an attack is detected on a Windows PC;
• Blocks future attacks – updates behavioral heuristics for attack detection, enabling it to recognize new illegal mining methods.

The newly added functionality does not change the prices of Acronis True Image 2019, which is currently available on the Czech market in three editions. Standard is a perpetual license for customers with local backups only and no need for cloud backup; prices start at CZK 1,321 for one computer. Advanced is a one-year subscription with 250 GB of space on Acronis Cloud Storage and access to all cloud features; prices start at CZK 1,321 for one computer. Premium is a one-year subscription including blockchain authentication and the option of an electronic signature, with 1 TB of cloud storage, starting at CZK 2,644 for one computer.

All editions include Acronis Active Protection against ransomware attacks and illegal cryptocurrency mining, while covering an unlimited number of mobile devices.
