Acronis has published the results of a local survey on data backup among Czech businesses, conducted at its recent Acronis Roadshow user conference in Prague. According to the survey, the most important attributes for Czech companies are solution costs and recovery speed, while the backup location is not a major concern.
Recovery speed is directly related to the maximum amount of time companies have to restore lost data in order to avoid serious consequences for their business. More than 40% of respondents set this time at 4 hours, while a full 94% of companies need to resolve the lack of data within one day. The most common cause of data loss in a company is carelessness by its own users.
Key survey findings:
- When deciding on a data backup solution, 30% of Czech businesses consider upfront costs the most important factor, 19% recovery speed, 18% operating costs, 13% supported platforms, and 12% technical support. Only 8% are concerned with the backup location.
- To avoid serious consequences for its business, a company must restore its lost data within 30 minutes (10% of respondents), within 1 hour (27%), within 4 hours (42%), and within 1 day (94%).
- The main causes of data loss in a company are carelessness by its own users (70%), technical failures (54%), malware/ransomware attacks (34%), and device theft (23%); natural disasters account for only 4% of cases.
- Czech businesses most commonly back up physical servers (67%), workstations (54%), VMware virtualization (33%), and Hyper-V virtualization (28%).
“Increasingly demanding market requirements for shorter delivery times for products and services can put companies in a hopeless situation if they lose their data, even temporarily,” said Zdeněk Bínek, responsible for sales of Acronis solutions in the Czech and Slovak markets. “That is why, when choosing a backup solution today, it is important to ask not only about the total cost of ownership, but also about recovery speed. And that is precisely why, in the latest version of its backup products, Acronis has focused on further increasing speed, so that, for example, Acronis Backup 12 is now 60–100% faster than its closest competitor in data backup and recovery, according to independent measurements by Network Testing Labs.”
