AV-TEST: Acronis True Image 2017 New Generation up to 10x faster than the competition, effective ransomware protection
The independent testing institute AV-TEST confirmed the leading position of Acronis's personal backup product in the categories of speed, protection, usability and functionality
Prague, April 11, 2017 – Acronis, a global leader in next-generation data protection solutions, presented the latest results from AV-TEST, an independent testing institute in the field of IT security, which evaluated Acronis True Image as the most comprehensive data protection solution. AV-TEST particularly highlights the solution's ability to protect data against ransomware through Acronis Active Protection functionality.
“Acronis is the only product capable of detecting and stopping ransomware with almost 100% effectiveness,” states the Data Protection and Backup Software Test report. AV-TEST conducted a series of tests comparing Acronis True Image 2017 New Generation Premium, Carbonite Personal PLUS, CrashPlan for Home and iDrive in four different categories: usability, performance, functionality and threat protection.
The results of these tests demonstrated Acronis True Image's leading market position:
- Threat protection score: 90%. Acronis True Image is the only personal backup solution with active ransomware protection. The product stopped all five ransomware test attacks in real time.
- Performance score: 92%. Acronis outperformed the competition in all tested performance scenarios, including backup and recovery speed for both full and incremental backups. On average, Acronis True Image was twice as fast and, in some cases, even up to ten times faster than its competitors.
- Usability score: 78%. Acronis True Image also achieved the highest score in this category thanks to its clear user interface and easy setup.
- Functionality score: 85%. Acronis shared first place in this category with iDrive, with both including 33 of the 39 possible features required in this category. The report particularly highlighted the Try&Decide, System Cleanup, Mobile Device Backup features and the option to choose data storage in one of 9 countries if the user chooses cloud backup.
“Acronis demonstrated excellent performance, is easy to use and includes rich functionality. In addition, it was the only solution in the test to provide specific protection against ransomware attacks. All of this earned the solution the APPROVED BACKUP & DATA SECURITY certificate from AV-TEST,” said David Walkiewicz, Director Test Research at AV-TEST.
Acronis Active Protection
Malware attacks and protection against them are constantly evolving. When backup proved to be a proven and reliable protection against ransomware, hackers began developing ransomware variants that also search for and attack backup files. To address this threat, Acronis enhanced its backup solution with innovative anti-ransomware technologies. In January 2017, Acronis launched Acronis True Image 2017 New Generation, a personal backup solution with Acronis Active Protection functionality, which proactively protects users' files and their backups by identifying and blocking ransomware in real time. Earlier that year, Acronis True Image 2017 New Generation received the Gold Self-Protection Award, another major award from the independent Anti-Malware Testing Lab test, which demonstrated the software's ability to protect itself and its users' backups against ransomware.
Acronis Active Protection technology is currently being gradually integrated into Acronis's portfolio of data protection and storage solutions, including Acronis Backup Advanced and Acronis Backup Cloud.
“Backup remains the most effective protection against data loss, but backup alone is no longer enough. Ransomware creators are now targeting backups and backup software. Acronis anticipated this, which is why it approached IT security experts to create a solution that would proactively protect our customers. Acronis Active Protection is the result that arrived at just the right time to protect customers against devastating cyberattacks,” said John Zanni, CMO at Acronis.
