According to a recent Ipsos survey , one in three Czechs will buy Christmas gifts exclusively from e-shops this year. Online stores can therefore look forward to a record-breaking season, but unfortunately also to increased attention from cyber extortionists, who will use DDoS attacks to cripple e-shop availability. And because online customers are impatient and leave for a competitor if they do not receive a response within seconds, unavailable e-shops can expect a massive loss of shoppers and their operators losses amounting to millions of Czech crowns.
That this is not an empty threat is demonstrated by the case of an unnamed Slovak retail company that faced a massive DDoS attack in the spring of this year. It reached several Gbps and completely crippled the web interface of the company's e-shop. Naturally, this was a significant problem for the company, as approximately 90% of its turnover is generated through the e-shop. Neither a properly configured firewall nor basic protection on the provider's side helped, as the attack was so massive that it completely saturated the incoming internet links.
This is a typical scenario that Cloudflare can help resolve – all traffic is redirected through a robust network of 250 data centers in more than 100 countries around the world. This network of data centers acts as a “washing machine” for internet traffic, with the ability to absorb up to 100 Tbps, which is orders of magnitude more than the largest attacks recorded to date.
So, if you do not want to send your customers to the competition before Christmas, take a look at https://www.zebra.cz/cloudflare/
