CPOS (Czech Industrial Trading Company), based in the Central Bohemian town of Sadská, manufactures and supplies steel structures for various industrial sectors, overhead crane girders, transport portals, bridge and railway structures, as well as machinery, machine parts and other components for mineral processing. The company also provides servicing, repairs and spare parts for screens and crushers of various brands in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. More information can be found at www.cpos.cz.
CPOS operates a traditional computer network with a physical server running virtual servers under VMware, containing production, accounting, email and other critical data. The company operated an outdated, unpatched firewall that would not have been able to protect the network against an imminent attack. The original firewall solution was also relatively complicated to operate and manage. In addition, the operation of the VPN network was not sufficiently addressed within the company, requiring relatively complex management through a Microsoft server.
