The tool eliminated the risks of PC infections, illegal access and non-work-related activities
PRAGUE, May 10, 2017 – GFI Software, a provider of security solutions for corporate networks, announced that the Research Library in Hradec Králové is using the GFI WebMonitor solution to manage its web access. Thanks to this tool, the customer eliminated visitors' access to websites with inappropriate content, minimized the possibility of downloading viruses from infected websites, and was able to maintain its employees' productivity at the required level.
Given the number of visitors and readers who use the library's public computers and terminals to access the internet, the biggest problems were visits to websites containing malware, visits to inappropriate websites and, in some cases, even illegal visitor activities. IT staff were occupied with reinstalling infected computers or restoring data from backups, while the library's reader services staff had to continuously visually monitor the websites visited by readers. Library employees also often visited websites unrelated to their job responsibilities.
In response, the library deployed GFI WebMonitor, a specialized tool providing centralized control over web activities in corporate networks. Rules restricting the downloading of illegal content can now be applied to specific computers. Upon request, the Hradec Králové library is able to report both an overview of total website visit traffic and specific statistics for individual users or groups of users.
“Due to the significant increase in library visits focused on working with computers and the internet, and the associated risks, we needed a solution capable of minimizing the risks arising from uncontrolled access to web connections,” said Petr Sklenář from the Information Technology Department at the Research Library in Hradec Králové. “The deployment and subsequent operation of GFI WebMonitor is one of the key security measures we have deployed at the Research Library in Hradec Králové.”
