The Czech Academy of Sciences (CAS) is a state organizational body comprising scientific institutes in the Czech Republic, primarily engaged in basic research. In the Czech Republic, it is funded mainly from the state budget and currently employs approximately 6,400 people. Services within the Academy of Sciences are provided by the Centre of Shared Activities of the CAS, which serves as a support organization for the Academy's institutes. Its IT Services Department manages and provides IT services for the CAS Office, the workplaces of the Centre of Shared Activities of the CAS, and other selected workplaces of the Czech Academy of Sciences. It provides network infrastructure management, operation and support of the economic information system, and operation and support of the central system for managing and administering web portals.

In the area of network infrastructure, the IT Department operated an Allot solution that provided network visibility. The existing solution no longer met the requirements for operating modern networks, and its vendor had also stopped supporting it.
