Backup – what is good to back up

Disk backup
A disk backup means a backup of the contents of the entire disk, including the installed operating system, installed applications, and all data stored on the disk. Unlike a file backup, a disk backup also contains the boot record and hidden parts of the operating system, so when restoring a disk backup, the operating system is fully functional and able to boot (provided it was functional at the time the backup was created).

Partition backup
A disk partition backup means a backup of the contents of the entire partition, including the installed operating system (if the partition contains it), installed applications, and all data stored on that disk partition. Unlike a file backup, a system partition backup also contains the boot record and hidden parts of the operating system, so when restoring a system partition backup, the operating system is fully functional and able to boot (provided it was functional at the time the backup was created).

System backup
A system backup usually means a backup of the system's working state that would allow the system to be restored to its original form. A classic example of software that enables system backups is Acronis True Image. It creates system backups by backing up, using the sector-by-sector method, the entire disk partition on which the system is installed. A backup created in this way contains not only the operating system, but also all applications installed on the given disk partition and all data stored on that partition. Acronis True Image allows backups to be burned directly to CD and DVD, stored on other disks/partitions, and saved to network storage. In addition, Acronis True Image also allows you to get a system up and running by restoring a system backup to a blank disk using Acronis boot media.

It is advisable to ensure that the operating system and work data are stored separately. This ensures that in the event of a system failure, when it is necessary to erase the system, you will not lose your data at the same time. If there are two hard drives in the computer, it is advisable to use one as the system drive and the other for storing work data. If there is only one disk in the computer, it is advisable to divide the disk into a system partition and a data partition. The Acronis Disk Director Suite software will help you partition the disk.

Directory backup
A directory data backup can be created in a variety of ways. One example is simply copying the contents through scheduled synchronization, backing up a directory with content compression, and more.
Acronis True Image offers directory backups that you can schedule. The contents of backups are compressed according to your settings, reducing storage space requirements. You can burn backups to CD and DVD, store them on local and external disks, and save them to network storage. In addition, Acronis True Image can create system backups, disk backups, and much more.

Outlook backup
When people refer to an Outlook backup, they usually mean archiving messages to an Outlook backup file and possibly copying the backup files to another directory. This principle is suitable for long-term archiving of email messages. The disadvantage of this method is that messages that are not in the backup archive are not backed up. If all messages are moved to the backup archive, working with them will be difficult.

How can you solve this problem?

  1. You can use an alternative email client that directly supports email message backups
  2. You can use software for backing up Outlook and Outlook Express. There are several tools that can create an Outlook backup. One of them is Acronis True Image, which can back up Outlook down to the level of individual email messages, and another is Acronis True Image, which can also create system backups, disk backups, and much more.

Partition backup

A partition backup, or partition image, is a file or several files that contain an exact copy of the partition from which the backup was created, including a working operating system (if it was on the disk partition from which the backup originates), installed programs, user settings, and data. Other commonly used terms for a partition backup are: disk partition image, disk partition image file, and partition image.

Windows backup – how to back up Windows

A Windows backup usually means a backup of the system's working state that would allow the system to be restored to its original form. A classic example of software that enables backups of the Windows operating system is Acronis True Image. It creates system backups by backing up, using the sector-by-sector method, the entire disk partition on which the operating system is installed. A backup created in this way contains not only the operating system, but also all applications installed on the given disk partition and all data stored on that partition. True Image allows Windows backups to be burned directly to CD and DVD, stored on other disks or partitions, and saved to network storage. In addition, Acronis True Image allows you to get a system up and running by restoring a system backup to a blank disk using Acronis bootable media.

It is advisable to ensure that the operating system and work data are stored separately. This ensures that if a system failure occurs and it is necessary to erase it, you will not lose your data at the same time.
