IT security will be a key segment of demand for managed services this year
PRAGUE, April 22, 2021 – ZEBRA SYSTEMS, distributor of N-able solutions (formerly SolarWinds MSP) on the Czech and Slovak markets, announced that demand for MSP services will be fundamentally affected by the latest cyberattack trends, including enhanced extortion tactics, malware techniques, and new ways of compromising corporate systems. This will require IT and managed service providers to strengthen their current service offerings in order to meet customer demand in the area of IT security.
According to findings by N-able, which provides leading infrastructure to MSP providers, the main cyber risks mentioned include the following:
- Ransomware – In addition to the now traditional encryption of data belonging to compromised organizations, attackers have refined their extortion by threatening to disclose sensitive data, which could damage reputations or result in substantial fines for GDPR non-compliance.
- New attack vectors – Email communication remains the primary distribution channel for malware, but attackers are increasingly exploiting open internet ports and the RDP protocol, particularly in attacks targeting remote workers.
- Fileless attacks – Because most antivirus programs scan only files, attackers bypass them using techniques that do not rely on files but instead abuse administrative tools such as PsExec or PowerShell.
- Attacks targeting MSPs – An increasing number of attacks are targeting MSPs, IT service providers, and IT security providers in order to penetrate the systems of multiple customers at once. To protect their customers, these providers need to raise their own IT security standards or use the services of an external MSSP (Managed Security Services Provider).
Cyberattackers are constantly improving their strategies and techniques to circumvent the existing defenses of businesses and organizations and gain access to data they can monetize. Not only are they improving individual attack methods, but they are also combining them into complex, multi-stage attacks. Effective defense against such attacks requires multi-layered security.
“Providing managed services today is no longer just about delivering remote management, but requires additional layers of IT security,” said Ondřej Šabata, Sales Engineer for N-able solutions at ZEBRA SYSTEMS. “An increasingly important part of MSP providers’ ability to protect their clients is the use of comprehensive MSP tools with integrated cybersecurity features that can handle all forms of cyberattack.”
