General problem-solving skills are a key capability for IT administrators

PRAGUE, June 20, 2024 – ZEBRA SYSTEMS, a distributor of N-able solutions on the Czech and Slovak markets, stated that in its survey, nearly half of its resellers responded that the main challenge for IT administrators today is to keep pace with the latest technologies. IT professionals currently mainly use MSP tools for remote management and monitoring or backup, but they need to begin adapting to the rapidly developing segment of MSSP tools for delivering cybersecurity services.

We are currently witnessing the dramatic pace of development of new technologies, such as artificial intelligence (AI). Their use by cyber attackers is forcing managed service providers (MSPs) to respond and add state-of-the-art MSSP tools to effectively protect their customers. However, interest in learning new technologies ranks only third among the requirements for IT administrators; their most valued capabilities are general problem-solving skills and sufficient cybersecurity experience.

Key survey findings:

  • According to 45% of Czech and Slovak resellers, the biggest challenge is keeping pace with the latest technologies; according to 40%, it is protection against attacks; and according to 10%, compliance with increasingly complex regulations.
  • The most sought-after skills for IT administrators are: 1. General problem-solving, 2. Cybersecurity knowledge and experience, 3. Interest in new technologies, 4. Communication and collaboration skills.
  • Today, 47% of IT administrators primarily use MSP remote management and monitoring (RMM) tools, 44% use tools for protecting company data, and 6% use cybersecurity tools.
  • Among MSSP tools, endpoint protection (EDR), firewalls and network protection, and vulnerability scanning & patch management are currently recommended most often.

“Although, according to our survey, only 6% of respondents primarily use MSSP tools to deliver cybersecurity services, this is a very dynamic and rapidly growing segment,” said Ondřej Šabata, Sales Engineer for N-able solutions at ZEBRA SYSTEMS. “This may cause difficulties for some MSP providers, as it means their IT administrators must keep pace with new and often very complex technologies. This is why we are seeing growing interest in services such as N-able MDR, which, by using an external SOC team, enable even smaller MSP providers to offer comprehensive services capable of addressing the latest threats.”
